The second book covers the years 1857-1890. While the book contin ues to tell the history of Fremantle’s hotel\, it also tells of what col onial life was like during those years. Allen entered his first book in th e Williams/Lee Steere Book of the Year Award for 2024 which is run by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society and the book was recognised as the runner up in that competition. In a certificate presented to Allen by the RWAHS they wrote ‘Inns and Outs is\, we believe the first in a seri es of books following the history of Fremantle’s hotels\, and if they ar e anything like this book WA will be fortunate indeed.’ That is some pra ise to be proud of\, and Allen believes my new book is worthy of that comm ent.
