Wednesday's meeting is an introductory hour at max, with 3 key people who will give more information on how to go about getting a.mini/pocket forest up and running, what's involved, next steps and an idea session on and how best to promote.

Following on from this we will run an informative evening with the film on pocket forests I have already seen which is so inspiring. So if you have an hour to spare on Wednesday 4pm please join. • As of 1 July 2021, voluntary assisted dying (VAD) is a choice available to eligible people under the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2019.
• VAD involves a process to access medication and to enable a person to legally choose the manner and timing of their death.
• Put simply, voluntary assisted dying means that some adults can now ask for medical help to end their life if they have a disease or illness that is so severe it is going to cause their death and their suffering cannot be relieved in a manner tolerable to them.
• The term ‘voluntary assisted dying’ emphasises the voluntary nature of the choice of the person and their enduring capacity to make this decision.

Over time, she established her own school and orphanage, providing food, education, and refuge to over 300 children and their families. Susan has been recognized with the Order of Australia Medal, the John Curtin Medal, and the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for her humanitarian work. She resides in Perth, Western Australia, and visits Kenya annually for a period of time.

World Polio Day is 24 October. Rotary remains committed to the program “End Polio Now”, which aims to eradicate the disease poliomyelitis through the vaccination of children throughout the world. Today there are 98 cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In order to achieve this, funds need to be raised.

Our Goal is to raise awareness of Polio in our communities on 24 October, and to raise $50,000 for ‘End Polio Now’ from Club sponsorships, NOT from the public.

The plan is for Rotarians from District 9423 to ride the trains throughout the WA Railway Network on Friday 24 October wearing a red Polio T-shirt promoting 'End Polio Now' and creating awareness in the public domain.

Although the event is free, you need to register so you are covered by insurance.

You can ride the trains anytime between 8am and 6.00pm, wearing your Polio T-Shirt - you can order your t-shirt if you register before 1 September.

Renee Kennedy, an acclaimed film and television producer is our Guest Speaker. Renee is currently producing a feature film adaptation of the celebrated novel "The Golden Age", by Joan London.  The Golden Age is set in a 1950s Perth children's convalescent home during the polio epidemic. Her talk will connect the poignant story of this compelling post-war narrative to Rotary's ongoing mission.

Rotarians are able to make an on-line donation towards the End Polio Now Campaign at the time of booking, or purchase a raffle ticket on the night.  All funds raised will be linked back to your club when forwarded to Rotary International.

Dr Mark Fielding is an experienced educator with 30 years experience in state and independent secondary schools as well as teaching and researching in a research intensive university in Perth (UWA). His passions and expertise include international education, global issues and trends in education, and history (Great War and maritime history).

His recent research on the internationalisation of education in Australian schooling has won a number of research awards including "most outstanding postgraduate thesis on a topic relating to international education" presented by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). He was also awarded a 'new voice in educational leadership research scholarship' from the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL)

He has a number of publications in these areas and has been a keynote speaker on these and other fields, most recently at a Global Education forum at the Gold Coast, Queensland and in Madagascar. In addition to his work in tertiary education he is also providing consultancy services in international teacher education.

Allen Graham is returning to tell members about Part 2 of the Inns and Outs of Fremantle: A Social History of Fremantle and its Hotels 1829-1929. The second book covers the years 1857-1890. While the book continues to tell the history of Fremantle’s hotel, it also tells of what colonial life was like during those years. Allen entered his first book in the Williams/Lee Steere Book of the Year Award for 2024 which is run by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society and the book was recognised as the runner up in that competition. In a certificate presented to Allen by the RWAHS they wrote ‘Inns and Outs is, we believe the first in a series of books following the history of Fremantle’s hotels, and if they are anything like this book WA will be fortunate indeed.’ That is some praise to be proud of, and Allen believes my new book is worthy of that comment.

Our exchange student Jin, will tell us about her home, family and what she plans to gain from her year in Australia.

John Rando's talk will be about the law, existential philosophy, social science and he will play a couple of songs on the accordion.  He would invite members to ask questions as he speaks.
