DJERAN SEASON

Through the Djeran Season, the initial sign emerges with the arrival of cooler nights, as the weather transitions to a more temperate state. This subtle shift in the atmosphere marks the beginning of Djeran and cool evenings hint at the imminent change in Season.

The morning dew slightly covers the land in a comforting blanket, evoking the knowledge that change is beginning.  Djeran is the Season where the land begins the cooling process and brings with it the south-westerly winds.
Noongar people initiate the movement towards the heart of the country during this Season, journeying to the serene waters of lakes and estuaries.
The Kangaroos' fur is transforming into a lush fullness coat, a luxurious gift for the Noongar people, fuelling them with nourishment, sustenance, and offering skins as a source of warmth and comfort. Djeran has always been hailed as the Preparation Season, focusing on readying food, shelter (mia mia), and preparing the journey for the wet Season of Makuru.

INFO UPDATE

Jane and I are back from Bali so it's time to get the Rotary hat on again after a very relaxing 11 days.

There is no meeting tomorrow as we'd like to see as many members as possible attending the District assembly on Sunday 12th April from 8:30 - 2:00pm. District Assemblies are a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary while enjoying great fellowship with members of other clubs. MAKING CONNECTIONS. See the registration link below. Non-members are welcome too if you'd like to learn more about Rotary. Let us know if you'd like to attend.

You may have noticed the Little Creatures tour was rescheduled to 14 April. It looks as though it doesn't suit everyone however we can look at going again if it's good enough.

I'll be placing the order for the bulbs fundraiser tomorrow so if you have any last-minute orders, please send them to me asap.

John, via Jane has given us a new venue suggestion so I'm organising a trial meeting for us however it may not be until May.

Jin is off to Sydney from 9th - 14th April and then on the North West Safari from 18th April - 3rd May so there won't be any student hosting for that period. Thanks to Laurie and Marcus for their donations so Jin and Sarah can experience the bridge climb.

Exciting news too that Dr Mark Fielding will be speaking to us on 21 April about Private Arthur Blackburn: Forgotten Anzac Legend. From the morning of 25 April 1915 to a VC at Poziers in 1916 to leading a battalion in the Second World War, the presentation will briefly outline the extraordinary life and military service of Arthur Blackburn, a forgotten Anzac hero.

We have arranged to meet in the Glasshouse, the downstairs meeting room at Kailis so it's a great opportunity to invite friends and colleagues along to hear Mark speak. The booking link is in the upcoming events section below.

Laurie Glossop had a captivated audience at the club meeting on Tuesday 31 st March, where he gave us an increased insight into some of his favourite FREE websites.

At a previous presentation Laurie showed some of the attributes of the Landcorp website, which he touched on briefly before introducing us to current and historical information that is readily accessible on the following websites; www.meteoblue.com, Google Earth Pro, www.flightradar24 and www.marinetraffic.com.

On Google Earth we flow low of Wittenoom, clearly seeing the extent of mine tailings and distribution of tailings downstream on water courses and coverage throughout the townsite.

Meteoblue delivers high resolution weather data with forecasts available for any
coordinate. We observed high level and low-level wind patterns around the globe and in particular, the consistent westerly winds in the Southern Hemisphere.

Flightradar24 is the live flight tracker that shows air traffic in real time. The current restricted air space in the Middle East was clearly shown.

Marine traffic provides information and vessel positions for vessels around the world. The current restricted movement of Oil Tankers from Persian Gulf plus restriction on shipping through the Suez Canal quite evident.

Thank you Laurie for a very informative presentation.

Who's registered for district training? Let's see how many members we can encourage to attend. There's always something new to learn and the fellowship is invaluable. We might learn something at District Assembly that might help invigorate the club.
