It's been a busy start to the new year for many of us and Rotary hasn't been the top of the list of things to focus on. Having said that, we have an interesting program ahead of us and the opportunity to participate in the mini forest project is very exciting.
Our first meeting of the year is Tuesday 13th January at the Sunset Picnic Area, 80 Birdwood Parade, Dalkeith. Bring your picnic or BBQ and catch up with your Rotary friends before we get into the swing of Rotary business. Contact David if you have any queries about the venue or what you need to being.
January is Vocational Services Month. Anyone have any suggestions about a workplace of interest we could visit?

FUNDS FROM THERMOMIX RAFFLE
Thanks to Marcus' generous donation of $1000 towards the cost of the Thermomix, we were able to donate $2796.50 to the "My Home" project. I would have liked to raise more however every dollar towards the project makes a difference.
My lesson learnt is, as suggested by Harry who has had plenty of experience running raffles for the club, we should have sold hard copy tickets as well. On-line sales are easier for members but unless the raffle is widely shared and advertised in the on-line world, not as successful.

SOME OF JIN'S ADVENTURES
Jin has been having some adventures while she's on school holidays. I'm not sure what she has done with other members however I've included a few photos from activities Jane and I have done with her. We did the Mandurah Christmas lights' cruise and then went crabbing the next morning. Jin did very well to be up and ready to go at 5:00am after a reasonably late night on the light cruise. Ainara, a student from Spain also joined us for dinner and the light cruise.
We then attended a session of the United Cup which was fun and Italy, the team we cheered for were successful on the day. Unfortunately they didn't progress but we enjoyed the day.
Jane and I are also taking Jin and Ainara camping on Rottnest from 27 - 31 January so that should be fun (and exhausting).
Please make sure you plan something to so with Jin when you are rostered as student host and change with another member if you are unavailable the week you are rostered. We want to give Jin the best experience we can while she's in WA.

Here's some interesting reading
After the discussion at the club's AGM, have a read of another article from the September/October edition of Rotary Down Under. The RC of Scarborough has turned vision into action achieving outstanding membership growth. I'm hoping to have Darren come and talk to members before our club forum early next year.
