In 2008, a group of Rotary clubs, (later joined by E-WA) with the support of the National Trust of Australia (WA) founded the Treemission © project. This innovative environmental project encourages people to address climate change by planting trees to offset their contribution to greenhouse gases and global warming. By informing the community about changes to our environment and planting trees to lessen those impacts, Treemission © is making a difference where it matters.
As part of Treemission's ongoing work in the environment, on 20 and 21 July, a number of members of our club joined Rotarians from other clubs and community members to plant 3,000 indigenous plants along the Wungong River near Armadale.
Planters worked with Jordan from South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare (SERCUL) who had prepared the ground by digging holes for us to make the planting easier. Some areas were very wet so it was a wellie boot day and we need to take great care when planting the seedlings. Rotarian, Dr Alan Briggs, a great advocate of Treemission along with members of the E-WA club was also present and encouraging the planters.
The weather was kind with only 1 shower on Sunday morning when I was there, and over the two mornings, all seedlings were planted.
