Inns and Outs of Fremantle Part Two

Allen Graham is returning to tell members about Part 2 of the Inns and Outs of Fremantle: A Social History of Fremantle and its Hotels 1829-1929. The second book covers the years 1857-1890. While the book continues to tell the history of Fremantle’s hotel, it also tells of what colonial life was like during those years. Allen entered his first book in the Williams/Lee Steere Book of the Year Award for 2024 which is run by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society and the book was recognised as the runner up in that competition. In a certificate presented to Allen by the RWAHS they wrote ‘Inns and Outs is, we believe the first in a series of books following the history of Fremantle’s hotels, and if they are anything like this book WA will be fortunate indeed.’ That is some praise to be proud of, and Allen believes my new book is worthy of that comment.
