Dr Mark Fielding is an experienced educator with 30 years experience in state and independent secondary schools as well as teaching and researching in a research intensive university in Perth (UWA). His passions and expertise include international education, global issues and trends in education, and history (Great War and maritime history).

His recent research on the internationalisation of education in Australian schooling has won a number of research awards including "most outstanding postgraduate thesis on a topic relating to international education" presented by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). He was also awarded a 'new voice in educational leadership research scholarship' from the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL)

He has a number of publications in these areas and has been a keynote speaker on these and other fields, most recently at a Global Education forum at the Gold Coast, Queensland and in Madagascar. In addition to his work in tertiary education he is also providing consultancy services in international teacher education.

In this presentation Mark will briefly chart the extraordinary achievements of the AIF on the Western Front from July to September 1918 when the Australia Corps, under General John Monash, played a disproportionately crucial role in the retreat of the Germany army and the advent of the Armistice on 11 November 1918 - the day we now call Remembrance day.
